My name is Kara and for as long as I can remember I have never wanted to be the center of attention; but rather behind the lense of a 35mm camera capturing life. The way life seems to slow down into a single frame as you begin to see things in a new light. Snapping that image of life in a single moment as you begin to realize that life is fleeting. I ventured out into the world after high school working in the beauty industry as a high stylist; alsways having that passion to create art. Until I woke one morning realistzing my true passion is behind the camera. I am not sure what the future of my career has instore for me but I am excited to be on this journey to find out! I really enjoyed this class and it definitely gave me a taste of some new things to try. Below are some links to the projects that I have completed as well as my thoughts on the journey through this process!
Cultural Influences
I have to say that my true influence is with the bible, holding tight to my faith while still allowing myself to color outside the lines. Having faith in God and knowing that there is a reason I don't follow the rules and I am constantly stepping over boundaries. Although I consider myself a feminist and give many praises to the women who have paved the way for my generation and generations to come; I am by NO means political. You will never find me following the masses but rather marching to the beat of my own drum. Growing up I have been inspired by authors like Anne Rice and Edgar Allan Poe who dared to be original at all costs; who weren't affraid to be dark and real. I am in awe of other countries and how they live; and one day I plan to document my journey through all of them.
Artistic Influences
I am inspired by all types of art. These days I am inspired by so many things around me, the artwork on the sides of trains and bridges that most people consider grafitti; the thunderstorm that illuminates the sky; even the homeless man on the corner who is clearly run down but the look in his eyes you can still see hope. Inspiration for art is every where if you are truly paying attention. Some artists that I find myself drawn to right now are Brooke Shaden, an artist named Even Levin based out of Pensacola Florida, and of course my favorite publication, The National Geographic. Most importantly, let's not forget the power of music. How it touches your soul and can make you feel every emotion by the time the last beat fades away. It can feel your mood in such an artistic way, letting my artwork manipulate all the emotion that has been stiffled within.
