My raster project is a composite of bits and pieces of communist propaganda posters, book covers, and drawings from eastern Europe. The words "War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength" is a line from Orwell's book, 1984. The "English Socialist Party" (or INGSOC) from the book uses this phrase (called doublespeak) to demoralize the citizens of Oceania and brainwash them into accepting the grim reality of their enslavement by the state. I wanted to translate that message and relate it to modern events. The drooling, anti-capitalist, lobotomized masses at the bottom march for their enslavement and demand their opposition (free markets and individualism) be arrested and oppressed. On the left, the mouthpiece reads from the "book of narratives" and regurgitates the brainwashing to the public.
